The bulbs are small Dave and the thing is if you want a 20k spectrum you have to run them on a dimmer switch in order to control the light spectrum.I think the bulbs will look like a 10 k white light when run full blast. They will also use a good 360 watts of electricity.I had the info and posted it on my thread. You would have to do a search.J wasn't crazy about them.I know the monteray bay aquarium is using them on one of there tanks. They are very bright but I don't know if the average reefer will like the color temp.4 units will cost me $3800 US for that kind of money I can get a kick ass led system that will blind me.

Yeah the plasma weighs a little bit more then a lumenarc reflector + I couldn't be fucked playing with the adjustment bars to get it even when I would have to set it back for the lumenarc reflector.

Is the power supply integrated in the unit??? If so does it have a big ass fan to cool it of? Never mind I looked at the photos again and saw the fan.

BTW what brand is that??? I recall the PR on the plasma element, but did not know if they licenced the use of the element to light manf.

They have there own fans Dave but the heat is suppossed to be less than the heat of an MH bulb (400 watt bulb). They are also suppossed to spread the heat above the light and not directly on to the tank the way mh lights do.

Steve what do you think about these lights.Do you like them and what is the cost per unit if you can say.

Cool setup, I like the new manifold, happy birthday, and that plasma light is pretty cool.

Did you get any par numbers when the bulb was "dimmed" to the same color as the radiums bulb, if you had the opportunity to do so?

I am about to test all 3 LED, Plasma (retrofitted to a Lumenarc) & MH in about 2 weeks time.

Personally I think LED's are crap but who knows

Yeah I liked the light (it mimicked sunshine 100%) great shimmer lines all the fish instantly grouped under the light when it was turned on so that was a positive for me it is just a shame the par readings where crap but par is not supposedly the best way to measure plasma lighting (spin spin)

It never really dims down to a good blue even at 20% it still looked yellow to me (well compared to the Radiums) it looked really weak when you dimmed it down and the general consensus among the group who where present was that it was crap once taken of 100% so I couldn't be fucked testing it of 100%

Does it have a warmup time before it reaches full intensity? How long was it running before testing par?

If you want to mimic the sun I guess it wouldn't be a bad lighting system.I think using these lights along with a mix of led might be something to think about. They probably look like my old 10k coralife bulb (very yellow)Maybe nice for a few hours as a day time sunlight effect but to look at as a 12 hour photo period would probably get very boring. Most of your corals will look brown under these types of bulbs. That's what mine looked like under a 250 watt 10 k bulb. They grew fast but the colors where bland. Its not fair to compare a 20 k bulb to this because the color s are no where near the same.

What is the cost per unit.Interesting to see because in the states it was $950 and I would think in OZ land its much more.

If the spectrum is 5300 k that's to low. This is why they are so yellow. Will probably grow a lot of algae.

very nice. try setting your white balance manually by zooming in on something white like your rack or a piece of PVC submerged under the lights. You will probably get better color rendition that way.

I got a weird pang of homesickness when I scrolled through your photos. Crying or Very sad
