| Ok guys, for over 3 yrs i have heard a click in my tank. Not super loud but loud enough where i can hear it in another room but if i'm sitting 20ft away from the tank i can hear it. First thoughts are pistol shrimp or a mantis. Problem is I haven't seen either or. Is there anything else that makes clicks it could be? I don't have any crabs in the tank. I would bet its a pistol shrimp but have no idea.

| Pistol or mantis is my guess if you're sure it's not an equipment noise.

| No man. I can look in my tank and hear the click. I think its in one of the large pieces of LR. Is there a good way to catch it or should i just leave it be. The reason i think its a pistol is because if its a mantis it would be fairly large after 3yrs i'd bet. Then again my coperban butterly disapeared mysteriously a few mths back.

Red cellophane over the lense work as well. I just posted some research links for you in the last post.

Luke if you have not added any more live rock in 3 years then its a pistol . A Mantis click gets so loud as they get larger you think the tank is going to come down. The pistol gives a good sound click but never really gets louder as they stay small.
I had one in my tank for like 2 years before I finally saw him. I though It was a mouse in my stand at first, because I only heard the sound at night when the room was dim. The only reason I saw him was I added a yasha hasha goby and he would come to the holes entrance with the goby when I fed the tank.

| Snails in the tank? If it were a mantis you would think there would be a decline in snail population. I second Frank’s idea of a Shrimp Goby to track the bastid down.

| I can't remember what fish you have, but I've heard of some fish that make clicking noises.
